Kinsley began as an English place name and surname. The English Place-Name Society records Kinsley, near Hemsworth in West Yorkshire, as Chineslai in the Domesday Book of 1086 and explains it as "Cyne's clearing": the Old English man's name Cyne with lēah, a woodland clearing or meadow. Bosworth-Toller gives the element cyne- as "kingly, royal", which is where the popular meaning "king's meadow" comes from, but in this place name it is a person's name. As a first name for girls, Kinsley is a modern American use. It is said KINZ-lee and sits well with Indian surnames.
