Kinjal (કિંજલ) matches Sanskrit kiñjala, which Monier-Williams treats as another form of kiñjalka: the fine filament of a flower, above all of the lotus. These golden threads around the heart of a lotus are a favourite image in Sanskrit poetry. On name lists today Kinjal is almost always given as "river bank". We could not find that sense in the Sanskrit dictionaries, so it appears to be a modern meaning that has grown up around the name. Kinjal is a Gujarati girls' name; a well-known bearer is the Gujarati folk singer Kinjal Dave.
