Magnolia meaning
Magnolia is an international girl's name of Latin origin (botanical, from French).
The magnolia tree, named after the botanist Pierre Magnol
Magnolia is the name of a flowering tree with large, scented white and pink blossoms, used as a girl's name especially in the American South. The Online Etymology Dictionary explains that the genus name, recorded from 1748, was coined by the botanist Plumier after Pierre Magnol (1638-1715), a French physician and professor of botany at Montpellier who devised a system for classifying plants. So the name means the flower rather than a word with a meaning of its own. It is often shortened to Maggie or Nola. Magnolia is said mag-NOH-lee-uh, and like Champa or Chameli it is a flower name with a lovely scent.
