Isha meaning
Isha (ईशा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, ई, it is a Vrishabh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Faculty, power, dominion
Also used to mean: goddess Durga, protector
Isha (ईशा) is the Sanskrit īśā, a feminine noun from the root īś, "to own, to rule". Monier-Williams gives its meaning as "faculty, power, dominion", citing the Atharvaveda and other Vedic texts; the related masculine īśa means "lord, master". The best-known appearance of the sound is the opening of the Isha Upanishad, the short text that forms the last chapter of the Shukla Yajurveda and takes its name from its first words, īśā vāsyam, "enveloped by the Lord". Indian name lists often give Isha as a name of the goddess Durga or as "protector"; we could not find those senses in the dictionary.
