Ivy meaning
Ivy is an international girl's name of Old English origin.
Ivy, the evergreen climbing plant
Also used to mean: ivy plant, faithfulness
Ivy is the name of the evergreen climbing plant, and it is one of the oldest plant words in English: Bosworth-Toller's Old English dictionary records it as īfig, "ivy". Because ivy stays green all winter and clings to what it grows on, it became a traditional Christmas decoration, as in the carol The Holly and the Ivy, and name lists sometimes add "faithfulness", a symbolic meaning rather than a dictionary one. Like Daisy and Lily, it belongs to the family of English flower and plant names. Short and bright, it is easy to say with Indian surnames.
