Jade meaning
Jade is an international girl's name of Spanish origin (via French).
Jade, a hard green stone ('stone of the side', Spanish ijada)
Also used to mean: green gemstone, precious stone
Jade is the name of the hard green stone prized for carvings and jewellery. Webster's 1913 dictionary traces the word through French to the Spanish piedra de ijada, "stone of the side", because it was once believed to cure pains in the side, from Latin ilia, "the flanks". The dictionary describes it as a very hard, compact stone, usually pale to dark green, that takes a fine polish, and notes that two minerals share the name, nephrite and jadeite. It has long been used for ornaments, especially in Eastern countries. As a girl's name it is short, modern and easy for Indian families to say.
