Job meaning
Job is a Christian boy's name of Hebrew origin.
Hated, that is, persecuted (Strong's); BDB: meaning unknown
Also used to mean: patient
Job is the Hebrew Iyyob, the hero of the Book of Job. Strong's Concordance (H347) derives it from 'ayab, "to be hostile", and glosses it "hated, that is, persecuted", while Brown-Driver-Briggs regards the meaning as unknown. Job is the upright man of Uz who lost his wealth, children and health yet kept his faith, and whose fortunes were restored; Ezekiel 14:14 ranks him with Noah and Daniel, and James 5:11 speaks of "the patience of Job". In Kerala Job is used as a given name by Syrian Christian families. The Arabic form Ayub is used by Muslims.
