Judith meaning
Judith is a Christian girl's name of Hebrew origin.
Jewess, a woman of Judah
Also used to mean: praised, woman of Judea
Judith is the Hebrew Yehudith, which Strong's Concordance (H3067) explains as "Jewess", the feminine of the word for a man of Judah. Name lists also give "praised", which reflects the tribal name Judah, explained in Genesis 29:35 by Leah's words of praise. In Genesis 26:34 Judith is a wife of Esau. The best-known bearer is the heroine of the Book of Judith, part of the Catholic and Orthodox Bibles, a devout widow who saved her town of Bethulia from the Assyrian general Holofernes. The name is used in Catholic families in Kerala, Goa and Mangalore.
