Alphonsa meaning
Alphonsa is a Christian girl's name of Gothic origin (via Spanish and Latin).
Noble and ready; from Gothic *aþal and *funs
Alphonsa is the feminine of Alphonsus, the Latin form of the Spanish royal name Alfonso. It goes back to a Gothic name built from *aþal, 'noble', and *funs, which Köbler's Gothic dictionary glosses as 'ready, eager, brave', so the name is usually read as 'noble and ready'. In India the name belongs to St Alphonsa of Bharananganam (1910–1946), born Anna Muttathupadathu, a Franciscan Clarist nun who in 2008 became the first woman of Indian origin to be canonised. The name honours her in Kerala Catholic families.
