Meena meaning
Meena (मीना) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, मी, it is a Simha rashi name (Magha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A fish; in legend, a daughter of Uṣā
Also used to mean: precious stone
Meena (मीना) goes back to Sanskrit mīna, a fish, which is also the name of the zodiac sign Pisces, Mīna rāśi. Monier-Williams records the feminine Mīnā as a daughter of Uṣā and wife of the sage Kaśyapa in the Purāṇas. Name lists usually give "fish", and sometimes "precious stone" or "blue gem". That second sense belongs to a different word that only sounds the same: Persian mīnā, which Platts gives as enamel, blue colour and a blue gem or glass bead, the source of mīnākārī, enamel work. The best-known bearer is the actress Meena Kumari, born Mahjabeen Bano, the star of Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam and Pakeezah, who also wrote poetry.
