Tabitha meaning
Tabitha is a Christian girl's name of Aramaic origin.
The gazelle
Also used to mean: graceful
Tabitha is an Aramaic name meaning 'gazelle'; Strong's Concordance gives it as 'of Chaldee origin', 'the gazelle', and Luke translates it into Greek as Dorcas, the same word. In Acts 9 Tabitha is a disciple in the port of Joppa, 'full of good works and almsdeeds', who sewed clothes for the poor widows of the town. When she died, Peter was called, prayed beside her and raised her to life. Church sewing circles were long called Dorcas societies in her memory. In India Tabitha is chosen by some Christian families for its story of quiet kindness.
