Hazel meaning
Hazel is a Christian and international girl's name of English origin.
The hazel tree; also light brown, like a hazelnut
Hazel is an English word name. Webster's 1913 dictionary gives hazel as a shrub or small tree of the genus Corylus, which bears the hazelnut, also called the filbert, with a mild, starchy kernel. As an adjective it means light brown, the colour of the ripe nut, and the dictionary illustrates it with Shakespeare's line "Thou hast hazel eyes". Hazel eyes, a soft brown, take their name from this sense. The word has nothing to do with the Bible, so it has no Strong's number; like Grace, it is one of the English word names used by Christian families. Name lists give the same meaning, the hazel tree.
