Tirth meaning
Tirth (तीर्थ) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, ती, it is a Tula rashi name (Vishakha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A ford, passage; a place of pilgrimage; sacred water
Tirth (तीर्थ) is Sanskrit tīrtha, whose first meaning in Monier-Williams is a passage or ford, the landing steps that lead down into a river. From that comes its best-known sense, a bathing place or pilgrimage site on a sacred stream, and more widely an object of veneration, a worthy person, and advice or a teacher. MW notes that Tīrtha is also one of the ten orders of ascetics founded by Śaṅkarācārya, whose members add the word to their names. In Jainism the great teachers are called Tīrthaṅkaras, "ford-makers", who open a crossing over the ocean of rebirth. Indian name lists give Tirth as a holy place or pilgrimage, which matches the dictionary.
