Upasana meaning
Upasana (उपासना) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, उ, it is a Vrishabh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Worship, homage; service, attendance
Upasana (उपासना) is Sanskrit upāsanā, from upa-ās, "to sit near". The image is of sitting close to a teacher or a deity, and Monier-Williams traces the senses from there: being near at hand, then serving, waiting upon and showing respect, and finally homage, adoration and worship. Apte adds religious meditation and the contemplation of one thing as another, a sense that matters in Vedānta. In Rāmānuja's school, the dictionary notes, worship has five parts, from approaching the deity to devotion itself. Name lists give "worship", matching the dictionary, and in Hindi upasana is still the ordinary word for devotional worship.
