Vatsal meaning
Vatsal (वत्सल) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Child-loving, affectionate; kind, loving, tender, devoted
Vatsal (वत्सल) is the Sanskrit vatsala, formed from vatsa, "a calf" and, by extension, "a child". Monier-Williams gives it first as child-loving and affectionate towards offspring, used of a cow longing for her calf, and then more widely as kind, loving, tender and devoted. In poetics vatsala names the tender sentiment of parental love, and the related noun vātsalya is the warmth of a parent for a child. Hymns praise the gods as bhakta-vatsala, "tender towards devotees". Name lists give Vatsal as "loving" or "affectionate", matching the dictionary. It is used in Gujarati families.
