Pleasing, charming, lovely; dark; Rāma, hero of the Rāmāyaṇa
Ram (राम) is the name of the hero of the Rāmāyaṇa, prince of Ayodhya and an avatar of Viṣṇu. The Sanskrit word rāma has two adjective senses in Monier-Williams: dark-coloured, and pleasing, pleasant, charming, lovely or beautiful. It can also mean delight. MW lists several famous Rāmas: Paraśurāma, the sixth avatar of Viṣṇu; Balarāma, Krishna's elder brother; and Rāmacandra, the epic hero. Name lists give Ram as "pleasing" or as a name of Lord Rama, both supported by the dictionary. The name is used on its own and in many compounds, such as Ramesh, Ramkumar and Sitaram.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Ram.
