Kartik meaning
Kartik (कार्तिक) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, का, it is a Mithun rashi name (Mrigashira nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
The month Kārttika (October–November); a name of Skanda
Kartik (कार्तिक) is Sanskrit kārttika, the name of the autumn month that falls across October and November. Monier-Williams explains that the month takes its name from the Kṛttikā asterism, the Pleiades, because its full moon falls near them. The same entry gives Kārttika as a name of Skanda, the war god better known as Kārttikeya, who was raised by the six Kṛttikās, and it also names a medical author and a sacred bathing place. So the name links a season of the year with Shiva's son. Karthik and Karthick are the usual South Indian spellings, and Kartikeya is the fuller, separate name of the god.
