Sagar meaning
Sagar (सागर) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, सा, it is a Kumbh rashi name (Shatabhisha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
The ocean
Sagar (सागर) is the Sanskrit sāgara, the ocean. Monier-Williams links the word to King Sagara of the Solar dynasty: in one account the ocean was named after him by his descendant Bhagīratha, and in another the sons of Sagara dug out the ocean's bed. Indian tradition counted three, four or seven oceans, and so sāgara can also stand for the number four. The word is used for any vast, inexhaustible mass, as in saṃsāra-sāgara, the ocean of worldly existence, and it names one of the ten orders of ascetics traced to the disciples of Śaṅkarācārya. Sagar is used both as a given name and as a surname, and Saagar is another spelling.
