Veena meaning
Veena (वीणा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, वी, it is a Vrishabh rashi name (Rohini nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
The vīṇā, an Indian lute; also lightning
Veena (वीणा) is Sanskrit vīṇā, the great stringed instrument of Indian music. Monier-Williams describes it as the Indian lute, ascribed to the sage Nārada, usually with seven strings and a large gourd at each end. Today the name covers a family of instruments: in Hindustani music the rudra veena is a stick zither with two gourd resonators, and in Carnatic music the Saraswati veena is a long-necked lute. The veena is also the instrument held by the goddess Sarasvatī, which links the name with learning and the arts. MW lists lightning among its senses too. Indian name lists give Veena as the musical instrument, matching the dictionary. Vina is a variant spelling.
