Yaqub meaning
Yaqub (یعقوب) is a Muslim boy's name of Hebrew origin (via Arabic).
Jacob; the Hebrew name is explained as 'heel-catcher, supplanter'
Also used to mean: successor
Yaqub (یعقوب) is the Arabic form of Jacob, the son of Isaac and father of Yusuf, honoured in the Quran as a prophet who charged his sons to hold to their faith until death (2:132). Strong's concordance derives the Hebrew Yaʿaqov from ʿaqab, "heel", and glosses it "heel-catcher", that is, "supplanter", recalling the story of his birth holding his twin's heel. Lane's lexicon notes that Arabic also has an ordinary word yaʿqūb, the male partridge, and that the prophet's name, being foreign, is declined differently. Many Muslims simply honour the name as the prophet's.
