Aangi meaning
Aangi (आंगी) is a Jain and Hindu girl's name of Gujarati origin.
The dress and ornaments placed on a sacred image
Also used to mean: decorating god, adorned deity
Aangi (आंगी, Gujarati આંગી) comes from a Gujarati word for the adornment of a sacred image. In Jain temples, āṅgī is the dress and jewellery with which the idol is decorated, often in elaborate designs for festivals, and the Gujarati dictionary also uses the word for the coat of oil and vermilion on an image of Hanuman. Name lists give Aangi as "the act of decorating God", which matches. The word has a few unrelated senses too, and Hindi āṅgī can mean a bodice, but the name follows the devotional sense. It is used mainly in Gujarati Jain and Hindu families.
