Adhara meaning
Adhara is an international girl's name of Arabic origin (star name).
The virgins, the maidens; a bright star in Canis Major
Adhara is the name of the second-brightest star in Canis Major, the Great Dog, the constellation that holds Sirius. Richard Allen's classic Star-Names and Their Meanings traces it to Arabic al-ʿadhārā, "the virgins" or "maidens", a name Arab sky-watchers gave to this star together with its neighbours. Lane's Arabic lexicon gives the singular, ʿadhrāʾ, as a virgin or maiden; in Persian and Urdu the same word is said Azra, a name many Indian Muslim families know. The International Astronomical Union approved Adhara as the star's official name in 2016. It is said uh-DAR-uh.
