Dua meaning
Dua (دعا) is a Muslim and international girl's name of Arabic origin.
Prayer, supplication; a call
Dua (دعا) is Arabic duʿāʾ, the verbal noun of daʿā, "to call". Lane's Lexicon gives its senses as asking or seeking, prayer to God, worship, and calling someone to one's aid. In the Quran, 14:40 closes Abraham's prayer with the plea that his duʿāʾ be accepted. Name lists today give the same meaning, "prayer". In Urdu the final hamza is dropped, so the name is written دعا. The singer Dua Lipa, born in London to Albanian parents from Kosovo, carries a name that looks the same, but in Albanian dua is a separate word, a verb meaning "to want" or "to love". As an Arabic and Urdu name, Dua means a prayer.
