Amit meaning
Amit (अमित) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Unmeasured, boundless, infinite
Amit (अमित) is the Sanskrit a-mita, "unmeasured", formed from the negative prefix a- and mita, "measured", from the root mā. Monier-Williams gives it as boundless or infinite, citing the Ṛgveda, and in later texts as "without a fixed measure". The adverb amitam means "immensely". It is the opposite of Sumit, "well measured", which comes from the same root. The word also begins the compound amitābha, "of unmeasured splendour", the source of the name Amitabh. Indian name lists give Amit as "infinite" or "boundless", exactly the dictionary meaning. It is also spelled Ameet.
