Amritpal meaning
Amritpal (ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਪਾਲ) is a Sikh boy's name of Punjabi origin, also used for girls.
Amrit (nectar of immortality) joined with pāl (protector)
Amritpal (ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਪਾਲ) joins amrit and pāl. The Mahan Kosh's first sense of amrit is the drink that makes one immortal, and it adds the sweetened water of Khalsa initiation, liberation and the soul among other senses; the Japji uses the word on Ang 8 of the Guru Granth Sahib. Pāl, from a Sanskrit root meaning to protect, is a protector or sustainer. Name lists read the name either as "protector of amrit" or as "protected by amrit". It is mostly given to boys, though Amritpal Kaur is also found.
