Anika (अनिका) is a modern girls' name whose meaning is not settled. Indian name lists usually give it as "graceful" or "full of grace", and some add that it is a name of Durga. We could not find either sense in the Sanskrit dictionaries. The closest Sanskrit word is anīka, which Monier-Williams gives as "face, appearance", "front, row, array" and "army, forces", but it is a masculine and neuter noun with no feminine anīkā, and no source we checked ties the Indian name to it. The name also matches Annika, a Swedish pet form of Anna, whose Hebrew source is glossed "favoured", but we have found no evidence that the Indian name comes from it either.
