Payal meaning
Payal (पायल) is a Hindu girl's name of Hindi origin (from Sanskrit pāda, 'foot'). By its first sound, पा, it is a Kanya rashi name (Uttara Phalguni nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
An anklet of gold or silver
Payal (पायल) is the Hindi pāyal, an anklet of gold or silver. Platts' Hindustani dictionary traces the word to Sanskrit pāda, "foot", with a suffix, and lists it with a small family of foot-related senses: as an adjective it describes an elephant that is "sure-footed, easy-paced", and as a noun it can also mean a child born feet first, or a bamboo ladder. The name follows the anklet sense, and Indian name lists give Payal simply as "anklet", in line with the dictionary. It is a Hindi word rather than a Sanskrit one, which is why it is not found in the Sanskrit dictionaries.
