Lavanya meaning
Lavanya (लावण्या) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, ला, it is a Mesh rashi name (Ashwini nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Beauty, loveliness, charm; also saltness
Lavanya (लावण्या) comes from Sanskrit lāvaṇya, a neuter noun. Monier-Williams gives two senses: first saltness, the taste or property of salt, from the Amarakośa lexicon, and then beauty, loveliness and charm, from inscriptions, court poetry and the Kathāsaritsāgara. It is the second sense that names carry, and name lists give 'beauty' or 'grace' accordingly. The dictionary word is लावण्य; the name is usually written लावण्या, with a long final vowel that marks it as feminine. The name reads the same across Indian languages and is written as easily in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam scripts as in Devanagari.
