Azalea meaning
Azalea is an international girl's name of Greek origin (via Modern Latin).
The azalea flower; from Greek azaleos, "dry"
Azalea is the name of a flowering shrub. The Online Etymology Dictionary says the botanist Linnaeus coined the name in 1753 from the feminine of Greek azaleos, "dry", because the plant does well in dry, sandy soil. Britannica explains that azaleas are a group of rhododendrons, mostly shrubs that drop their leaves in winter and bear funnel-shaped flowers, and that they were once placed in a genus of their own. Name lists sometimes give "dry", which is literally right, but most families choose it as a flower name, like Indian names such as Kamala or Juhi. It is said uh-ZAY-lee-uh.
