Colton meaning
Colton is an international boy's name of English origin (Old English place name).
Cola's farm or estate; Cola, a nickname from col, "coal"
Also used to mean: coal town, from the coal town
Colton is an English place name that became a surname and, in America, a first name. Several English villages share it, and their origins differ. The usual explanation joins the Old English personal name Cola with tūn, which Bosworth-Toller define as an enclosure, a farm or estate, and later a village or town; Cola itself was a nickname from col, "coal", perhaps for someone with dark hair, as in the Domesday spelling Coletun for Colton near Leeds. For at least one Yorkshire Colton, place-name scholars prefer col in its literal sense, giving "farm where charcoal was made". Name lists give "coal town".
