Dakshinamurthy meaning
Dakshinamurthy (दक्षिणामूर्ति) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
A form of Shiva; literally 'southern form'
Also used to mean: Lord Shiva, facing south
Dakshinamurthy (दक्षिणामूर्ति) is a name of Śiva. Monier-Williams records dakṣiṇāmūrti as a Tantric form of the god, and the word is made of dakṣiṇa, which means able and clever as well as right-hand and southern, and mūrti, a form, embodiment or image. In temples, especially in South India, Dakshinamurthy is the image of Śiva as a teacher, seated facing south and teaching in silence. Families in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka give it to boys, and it can be shortened to Murthy at home. Its meaning is religious rather than descriptive: it names Śiva in his role as the teacher of knowledge.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Shiva.
