Shirshendu meaning
Shirshendu (शीर्षेन्दु) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Bengali usage).
The moon at the head or crown (śīrṣa 'head' + indu 'moon')
Shirshendu (शीर्षेन्दु) joins Sanskrit śīrṣa, "head", with indu, "moon". Read together it means the moon at the head or crown, the image of the crescent moon in Śiva's hair that also lies behind names such as Chandrashekhar and Somashekhar. The compound is not in Monier-Williams, and name lists do not agree on a meaning, so we give it from its two parts. It is a distinctly Bengali name, made famous by the novelist Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay, and is pronounced SHEER-shen-doo.
