Amalendu meaning
Amalendu (अमलेन्दु) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Bengali usage). By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Spotless moon (amala, 'spotless' + indu, 'moon')
Amalendu (अमलेन्दु) joins two Sanskrit words: amala, "spotless, stainless, pure, shining", and indu, "the moon". Monier-Williams gives indu first as a drop, especially of soma, and then as the moon; amala is a-, "without", plus mala, "dirt, stain". The compound is not itself a headword, but its sense is plain, and baby-name lists give it as "spotless moon". The name is used mainly in Bengal and Assam; the historian Amalendu Guha, known for his work on Assam, is a well-known bearer.
