Shashank meaning
Shashank (शशांक) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
The moon (literally 'hare-marked'); camphor; name of a king
Shashank (शशांक) is Sanskrit śaśāṅka, from śaśa, "hare", and aṅka, "mark": the moon, "the one marked with a hare", because Indian tradition sees a hare in the moon's dark patches. Monier-Williams gives the moon, camphor, and the name of a king known from the Harṣacarita. That king, Śaśāṅka, ruled Gauḍa in Bengal in the early seventh century and was a rival of Harṣa. Name lists give Shashank as "moon", matching the dictionary.
