Shahid meaning
Shahid (شاہد) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
A witness; one who tells what he has witnessed
Shahid (شاہد) is the Arabic shāhid, from the root sh-h-d, "to witness, to be present". Lane glosses it as a witness, one who tells what he has witnessed. The Quran uses shāhid of the Prophet Muhammad in 33:45, where God tells him that He has sent him as a witness, a bringer of good tidings and a warner, and Lane notes al-Shāhid, "the Witness", as one of the Prophet's names. Name lists today give Shahid as "witness", in line with the dictionary. It is easily confused with shahīd (شہید), "martyr", from the same root but with a long second vowel and a different spelling in Urdu. Shahid stresses the first syllable; Shaheed stresses the second.
