Shantaram meaning
Shantaram (शान्ताराम) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Marathi usage).
The calm Rāma (śānta 'tranquil' + rāma 'pleasing; Rāma')
Also used to mean: peaceful one
Shantaram (शान्ताराम) joins Sanskrit śānta, which Monier-Williams gives as appeased, tranquil, calm and free from passions, with rāma, "pleasing, charming" and the name of Rāma himself. Read together it means the calm Rāma, or a calm and pleasing person, and name lists give "peaceful one". It is a Marathi name, carried by the pioneering film-maker V. Shantaram, and it reached readers worldwide through Gregory David Roberts's novel Shantaram, whose narrator is given the name by a Maharashtrian village family.
