Tarak meaning
Tarak (तारक) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, ता, it is a Tula rashi name (Swati nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Carrying across, rescuing, saving; a star; the eye's pupil
Tarak (तारक) is Sanskrit tāraka, from the causative of the root tṝ, "to cross over". Monier-Williams gives the adjective as "carrying over, rescuing, liberating, saving", citing it in the Mahābhārata as a description of Śiva, and it also names a particular saving prayer. As a neuter noun tāraka means a star, the pupil of the eye or the eye itself, and as a masculine noun a helmsman. The same word is the name of the Daitya Tāraka, whom Indra overcame with the help of Skanda, a story told in the Mahābhārata and in Kālidāsa's Kumārasambhava. Indian name lists give Tarak as "star" or "protector", which matches these senses.
