Atri meaning
Atri (अत्रि) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Name of a great Vedic sage; (literally) a devourer
Also used to mean: the sage Atri, wise
Atri (अत्रि) is the name of one of the great sages of the Veda. Monier-Williams records the word as "a devourer", from ad, "to eat", in one Rig Vedic verse, but its main use is as the name of the seer to whom many Vedic hymns are credited; it is also the name of one of the seven stars of the Great Bear, which Indian astronomy links with the seven sages. In later tradition Atri is one of the Saptarishis, the husband of Anasūyā and the father of Dattātreya, Durvāsā and Candra. Baby-name lists give the name simply as "the sage Atri" or "wise".
