Kashyap meaning
Kashyap (कश्यप) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Name of an ancient sage, husband of Aditi; also 'a tortoise'
Kashyap (कश्यप) is the name of Kaśyapa, one of the great sages of Hindu tradition. Monier-Williams records him as the husband of Aditi and father of the Ādityas, the sun-gods, and by his other wives the father of demons, serpents, birds and other creatures, so that he is a forefather of all living beings. As a common word, kaśyapa also means a tortoise and, as an adjective, having black teeth. Name lists give "sage", which refers to him. Kashyap is also a gotra and surname.
