Kovid meaning
Kovid (कोविद) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, को, it is a Mithun rashi name (Punarvasu nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Experienced, skilled, learned
Kovid (कोविद) is Sanskrit ko-vida, which Monier-Williams derives from the root vid, 'to know', the same root that gives Veda and vidyā. He glosses it as experienced, skilled and learned in something, as in aśva-kovida, 'skilled in horses', with citations from Manu, the Mahābhārata and the Rāmāyaṇa. Name lists render it 'scholar' or 'wise', which is fair to the dictionary. Parents should know that since 2020 the name has sounded like COVID-19, and news reports have described people called Kovid being teased about it. It should also not be confused with Kovind (कोविंद), which is a different name and surname.
