Mangal meaning
Mangal (मंगल) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Auspicious, lucky; welfare, happiness; the planet Mars
Mangal (मंगल) is Sanskrit maṅgala, "auspicious, lucky". Monier-Williams gives it as an adjective, as a noun for happiness, welfare and anything that brings good fortune, from an omen or a prayer to a festival, and as a masculine name of the fire god Agni and of the planet Mars. Mangalvar, Tuesday, is Mars's day, and mangal is still the everyday Hindi word for "auspicious", as in mangal kamna, good wishes. Name lists give "auspicious" or "Mars", matching the dictionary. Its most famous bearer is Mangal Pandey, the sepoy of the 1857 uprising.
