Tariq meaning
Tariq (طارق) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
One who comes by night; the star that appears at night
Tariq (طارق) is the Arabic ṭāriq, from the root ṭ-r-q. Lane's first sense is a comer by night, one who arrives after dark and has to knock at the door. With the article, al-Ṭāriq is the title of Surah 86, which opens with an oath by the sky and the night-comer, then explains the night-comer as the piercing star (86:1–3). Lane gives al-Ṭāriq as the star that appears in the night, or the morning star, so the popular gloss "morning star" is in the dictionary too. The name's most famous bearer is Ṭāriq ibn Ziyād, the Berber general who led the Muslim landing in Spain in 711. The Rock of Gibraltar takes its name from him: Jabal Ṭāriq, "Mount Tariq".
