Azaan meaning
Azaan (اذان) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
An announcement; the call to prayer
Azaan (اذان) is the Urdu pronunciation of the Arabic adhān, from the root ʾ-dh-n, "to hear, to be told", which also gives udhun, "ear". Lane's lexicon defines adhān as a making known, a notification or announcement, and in particular the call to prayer that announces its time, recited five times a day from the mosque. The Quran uses the word in its older sense of a public proclamation (9:3). Name lists give Azaan as "call to prayer", the sense every Urdu speaker hears in the word.
