Ansar meaning
Ansar (انصار) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
Helpers, supporters; the Medinans who aided the Prophet
Also used to mean: defenders
Ansar (انصار) is the Arabic anṣār, the plural of nāṣir, "helper", from the root n-ṣ-r, "to help, to give victory". Steingass's dictionary gives helpers or supporters, and notes the special sense of the people of Medina who welcomed and aided the Prophet Muhammad after he left Mecca. The Quran praises "the first of the Emigrants and the Helpers" (9:100). The related Ansari, "one of the Ansar", is an Indian Muslim family name. Ansar is plural in form but is used in India as a boy's given name.
