Meraj meaning
Meraj (معراج) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
A ladder, a series of steps; the Prophet's ascension
Also used to mean: elevation
Meraj (معراج) is the Indian spelling of the Arabic miʿrāj, from ʿaraja, "to ascend". Lane's lexicon defines miʿrāj as a ladder or a series of steps or stairs, and notes laylat al-miʿrāj, the Night of the Ladder, when the Prophet Muhammad is related to have ascended from Jerusalem to heaven. In India the night is observed as Shab-e-Meraj. Name lists give the meaning as "ascension" or "elevation", in line with this sense. The name is also used in the forms Miraj, Mairaj and Merajuddin.
