Gardens, meadows (plural of rawḍa)
Riyaz (ریاض) is the Arabic riyāḍ, the plural of rawḍa. Lane's lexicon describes a rawḍa as a meadow, a green tract of land where rainwater gathers and grass and flowers grow, and sometimes a garden; Riyadh, the Saudi capital, carries the same plural. Platts's Urdu dictionary gives riyāẓ as "gardens", and also records it as a form of riyāẓat, "exercise, discipline", the source of the musician's word riyāz, daily practice. Name lists give Riyaz as "gardens". In India it is a Muslim boys' name, also spelt Riaz.
