Rameez (رمیز) is built on the Arabic root r-m-z, "to make a sign". Lane's lexicon explains ramaza as indicating something without words, by a movement of the lips, eyes, eyebrows, hand or head, and rāmiz as one who makes such a sign. The Quran uses the word when Zakariya is told he will speak to people for three days only "by gesture" (3:41). Name lists usually give Rameez as "intelligent" or "wise". We could not find those senses in the dictionaries, so they appear to be modern meanings.
