Himanshu meaning
Himanshu (हिमांशु) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
'cool-rayed', the moon
Himanshu (हिमांशु) is Sanskrit himāṃśu, from hima, "cold", and aṃśu, "ray", so "the cool-rayed one", a poetic name for the moon, whose light is cool where the sun's is hot. Monier-Williams glosses it simply as "cool-rayed", the moon. Sanskrit has several moon names built the same way, among them Śītāṃśu, also "cool-rayed", and Sudhāṃśu, "nectar-rayed". Baby-name lists give "moon" or "moonbeam", matching the dictionary. The name begins with हि, a short i, and shares its first element with Himani, "snow". The feminine Himanshi is a modern form used for girls.
