Balachandra meaning
Balachandra (बालचंद्र) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
The young or waxing moon
Balachandra (बालचंद्र) is Sanskrit bāla-candra, from bāla, "young", and candra, "moon". Monier-Williams gives it as the young or waxing moon. The thin new crescent is the moon Shiva wears in his hair, so the name has a gentle Shaiva association, though the dictionary sense is simply the young moon, and baby-name lists agree. The name is used in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, where Balachandran and Balachander are also used, and in Maharashtra as Balchandra. Film director K. Balachander and actor-director Balachandra Menon carry forms of it.
