Mohan (मोहन) is Sanskrit mohana, from the root muh, "to be bewildered" or "to lose one's senses". Monier-Williams gives the adjective as bewildering or infatuating, and the masculine noun as a name of Śiva and of one of the five arrows of Kāma, the god of love; Apte's dictionary adds fascinating and enrapturing. On Indian name lists Mohan is given as "charming" or "attractive" and as a name of Krishna. The charming sense fits Apte, but neither dictionary links mohana to Krishna; that association comes from later devotional usage, where Krishna is the enchanter of hearts. The name is also the first part of Mahatma Gandhi's given name, Mohandas, "servant of Mohan".
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Shiva.
